Aha, this is interesting!

The song Never Be Mine was apparently used as a theme song to a Japanese show of some kind that presented different Japanese drama series.

Never Be Mine is performed by Eric Russell, whose real name is Olivier Constantin (however I’m still not sure whether if it’s his birth name or not. More about that another time), a French singer. 

The song was featured on his album Personal, which was supposed to be released in the US at one point but somehow it got shelved. Would love to know why…

Oh well, the album received a Japanese release in 1993 and an European release followed in 1995. It should be noted that “European release” was not a real “European release” per se, it was rather a German release!

So in the end, Olivier’s album was only released in Japan and Germany. What a pity, it deserved more. I don’t own the actual album and from what I have read both releases are somewhat rare and might be hard to find, so I had to download it.
 
I hope someday there will be a re-release, but I doubt it…
